Sustainability

When we created our accommodation in 2011, we already had the need for long-term sustainability and the minimization of the environmental footstep, the rationalization of energy use, even in spite of the higher initial costs.

The operational experiences proved the solutions considered innovative in 2012. Our accommodation, which was built in the first phase, exceeding the energy requirements of the regulations at the time of construction, is a building with a traditional appearance, but with modern mechanical solutions and thermal insulation. The walls were built in the Thermo-Block system, with triple-glazed, highly insulated windows and doors. Humidity control and fresh, pollen-free air are ensured by the heat recovery, remotely controlled ventilation system of the Hoval company.

From the beginning, solar collectors have been producing domestic hot water, which is produced from renewable energy for a significant part of the year. In 2016, we installed our first solar power generation system with 12 panels, and in the summer of 2020, thanks to the support of the Kisfaludy Program, we will be able to cover our entire electricity demand with solar panels by supplementing this with 14 panels. We have installed a remotely monitored FRONIUS SMART meter next to our electricity meter, so that continuous online monitoring of our electricity production and consumption has been ensured from 2020, so we can monitor electricity consumption not only at the given moment, but also on a daily, monthly and yearly basis, thanks to this it is possible to optimize individual consumers, reveal possible overconsumption and further rationalize energy consumption overall.

Before 2012, our area was an empty meadow, with a road leading to it in a very deteriorated state, without sewage drainage or drinking water network. Adequate quality internet was also not available. Our development was not only self-serving, the so-called "multiplier effect" can now be measured spectacularly. Örvényeshegy started to develop dynamically. In the part of the settlement, the road was renewed in its full width for 2 km, high-speed internet was introduced, small waste water treatment devices based on the model we tested were installed on estates not accessible by wired supply in the area, new restaurants and new accommodation were opened.

In 2012, even though we arrived as settlers from Budapest, the local government was happy to accept our initiative for development, and we were able to jointly formulate long-term sustainability goals at the local level.

In 2019, we jointly created the municipality's Sustainable Climate and Energy Action Plan (SECAP), in which we identified the main intervention points and developments until 2030, and the municipality committed itself to a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions. Thanks to this, by September 2020, the electricity supply of all local public institutions are 100% covered by solar energy: including the buildings of the primary school, kindergarten, youth club, municipal office and doctor's office. A SMART meter was installed in the doctor's office based on the model of our system at Pálos Resort, which was handed over in 2020, and the heating was also installed here with modern Norwegian electric heating panels that can be controlled remotely, as we did the same in the spring of 2020.

We will expand our excursion-related services from 2020, our plan is to purchase an e-bike MTB (pedelec) "fleet" of 18 bicycles. We have already purchased the first 9 MTB e-bikes for testing, in adult and children's sizes. The hills of Zala are not a challeng even on the terrain with these bikes, we can show the infrequent hikers a new healthy opportunity for exercise and recreation, thus we will be able to provide a healthy recreation opportunity to a wider circle. The price of quality e-bikes, especially MTBs, is still quite high at the moment.

In the winter of 2019, to support electromobility, we started to consider e-charger installations in our parking lots, and at the same time we ourselves replaced our previous diesel car with a plug-in hybrid with a green license plate. Unfortunately, the regulations for the establishment of public chargers were significantly tightened in 2020, so this caused a standstill in this area, originally we wanted a public charging station, with a Type-2 connector, with remote monitoring. We would like to continue the related preparations and implement the commissioning of the chargers within 1-2 years.

A significant part of our breakfast offer comes from our immediate 30 km environment. We use refillable liquid soap dispensers and shower gel dispensers in our bathrooms. At the beginning of the operation, we tried single-use soaps, small bottles of shampoo, and shower gels, but in connection with these, a large amount of wastage and waste was generated, so we switched to the dispenser solution from 2015. Starting in 2019, we introduced reusable plastic cups with a deposit fee and our own logos at our events, thus we were able to completely eliminate disposable plastic cup waste.
